Calabogie Freestyle is excited to be back this year running its 10-week programs and hosting two Freestyle Ontario competitions in 2022. Calabogie Freestyle hosted a Timber Tour mogul competition in February and the club is now looking forward to hosting Provincials in March.

The 2022 Calabogie Freestyle Timber Tour took place from Feb. 11-13, where athletes had the opportunity to compete in two days of mogul competitions.

“Calabogie Freestyle proudly showed up to the event with athletes of all ages competing in the hometown Timber Tour. From as young as eight years old through to 14 years old, we had 15 Calabogie athletes leave all on the course in hopes of grabbing the spotlight at their home hill,” said Myles Adam, Program Director of Calabogie Freestyle. “From volunteer shovels hitting the snow early Friday morning to awards wrapping up on Sunday afternoon, there was fun, comradely, and passion displayed by athletes and volunteers alike.”

Some Calabogie Freestyle athletes took this local competition as an opportunity to compete in their first mogul competition. More experienced athletes on the Calabogie Freestyle competitive team and development team were happy to have so many supporters present.

"It was super fun to compete at our home hill in the Calabogie Timber Tour. We had a great team and we cheered each other on during their runs,” said Marieke Turnau, who came in first place in the U14 division on Feb. 12.

With a 2022 Timber Tour under their belt, Calabogie Freestyle is looking forward to hosting the Freestyle Ontario Provincials from March 4-6. Spectators can anticipate two days of impressive mogul and slopestyle skiing from the best ranked athletes across the province.

“We have just seen the Olympics come to a close and watching our Canadian freestyle athletes compete at such a high level certainly is a great reminder of how important local and provincial events are to keep the sport growing. Our club over the last few years has a great focus on developing our mogul athletes locally and with the support of Calabogie Peaks Resort. We have a great venue for athlete to learn to train. This has been recognized and we are now looking to grow our slopestyle offering with the support of Calabogie Peaks Resort and Freestyle Ontario,” said Jeff Jarvis, President of Calabogie Freestyle.

“By hosting both a mogul competition and slopestyle/big air event at Provincials, we have the opportunity to attract new athletes at the same time as giving our club-based athletes the opportunity to see and explore something new in their sport. This event will bring athletes from across the province to Calabogie Peaks Resort and Renfrew County for the weekend and we are extremely excited to show off what our area and club have to offer. These events are not possible without the support of a great resort team, our volunteers, and the Freestyle Ontario Team. We look forward to seeing people at the event with the proper safety measures in place.”
