Marieke Turnau, an 11-year-old Calabogie Freestyle skier, has been having a great season competing in moguls on the Freestyle Ontario Timber Tour circuit. Now, she is looking forward to competing this weekend at her home hill, Calabogie Peaks.

From Feb. 22-23, athletes from across Ontario will be coming to compete at the Timber Tour mogul competition at Calabogie Peaks.

"I am very excited to try my best and have lots of fun with my friends on the Calabogie Freestyle team. The Timber Tour will also help me improve for future competitions,” said Marieke.

Marieke has been competing in the women’s U12 division and recently came in first place on day one of the Timber Tour competition at Caledon. Along with Marieke, her older brother and 12 other Calabogie Freestyle skiers will be competing in this weekend’s Timber Tour. It will be a nice opportunity for friends, family and the rest of the Calabogie Freestyle club to cheer on the local athletes.

“This weekend, 14 athletes from our competition and development teams will be participating in the Calabogie Timber Tour,” said Myles Adam, head coach of Calabogie Freestyle. “With the advantage of our home course, our athletes are eager to lay down the competition runs they have been training for over the past month, in between other stops on the Timber Tour circuit.”

There will be around 60 Ontario athletes competing this weekend. Calabogie Freestyle is holding a banquet on Friday night to welcome all of the skiers and their families to Calabogie.

Last month, the Canada Cup mogul competition took place at Calabogie Peaks. Now Timber Tour athletes will have the opportunity to ski the top-class mogul course. Calabogie Peaks has been hosting a series of national and provincial level competitions this season with great success.

“Calabogie Freestyle is excited to host a Timber Tour event this season,” said Myles. “Earlier this year we had the Canada Cup come to Calabogie. We have a great mogul course and we’re excited to welcome all of the athletes to our hill this weekend.”
