Freestyle Ontario Provincewide Shutdown Update

On Dec. 26, 2020 Ontario will enter a Provincewide Shutdown which mandates the closure of many businesses in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. Among the closures are ski resorts, and other freestyle training venues such as indoor fitness facilities.

As a result, Freestyle Ontario has suspended all in person programming, coaching courses, and events ran directly by the organization, until further notice.

“Freestyle Ontario remains committed to doing its part to limit the spread of COVID-19 and the organization will adapt to abide by these restrictions,” said Executive Director Eli Budd. “We look forward to hopefully returning to the snow later this winter, when it is safe to do so.”

In addition to the activities scheduled to take place during the Shutdown, the Beaver Valley Timber Tour scheduled for Jan. 27-29 has been postponed. It is not feasible for a competition to take place so close to any potential lifting of restrictions. Freestyle Ontario is working with all Timber Tour host resorts and clubs to determine the impact this will have on the competition season.

Another change that will come into effect on Dec. 26 is that FO Member clubs must suspend Ontario based in-person programming until the lifting of these new government restrictions.

Inter-provincial travel is strongly discouraged by public health officials under the new restrictions, and Freestyle Ontario is recommending its clubs follow this advice.

The closure of resorts will have a significant impact on the entire ski community. Freestyle Ontario will work with our resort partners where we can, and encourage our membership to do the same.

We hope we can all safely return to the snow later this winter.
